Where can Feather River doors be purchased?
  Answer: Feather River Doors are sold exclusively at The Home Depot.

Will Feather River build custom "width" or "height" doors?
  Answer: Feather River can only customize the height of their 6'8" (80") Collection Doors, The height can be customized a minimum of ½" or 5-1/2" maximum based on our standard slab height of 79". We cannot customize the width on any of our doors. Feather River offers a wide selection of doors available in 30", 32", 34", 36, and even 42" Widths and 6' 8" (80"), 7'0" (84"), and 8'0" (96") Heights. Please use our Door Configurator to find a door to fit your home's opening.

Will Feather River cut the “height” of the door?
  Answer: Yes, Feather River doors come standard 79" in height, they can be shorted (cut down) to 73-1/2".

Will Feather River cut the “width” of the door?
  Answer: No, only the height can be cut down.

Does Feather River offer pre-finished jambs?
  Answer: No, Currently Feather River offers two options: 1) A tan primed jamb that is paintable and stainable. This jamb is standard on all woodgrain fiberglass product (Pre-Finished and Unfinished). All smooth fiberglass doors come with a white primed jamb which is paintable. 2) A clear pine jamb which is available as an option upgrade.
This jamb will allow a more consistent finish when staining a jamb.

Does Feather River offer 8' fiberglass doors?
  Answer: Yes, see the Products tab for available styles.

Does Feather River sell "slab only" or "glass only?"
  Answer: Yes, Feather River can sell you the basic door slab or glass doorlite as separate items. Pricing available through The Home Depot.

Does the color of the astragal between a double door match the unfinished jamb color or pre-finished door finish?
  Answer: All oak woodgrain fiberglass product (Pre-Finished and Unfinished) comes standard with a clear pine astragal which can be stained or painted to match your door or jamb finish. All mahogany grained product comes with an unfinished mahogany clad metal astragal which can be painted or stained to match your door or jamb finish.   All smooth fiberglass product comes standard with a white primed astragal for painting and will have an option for the clear pine astragal which can be stained or painted to match your door or jamb finish. 

What is the difference between "Stock" and "Special Order" Feather River Fiberglass Doors?
  Answer: The Home Depot carries a standard eight-door selection of "Stock" doors of various sizes and colors. "Special Order" doors are built to order for the individual customer based on their selections from a vast array of options offered by Feather River - your entry system can be as unique as it is beautiful.



Exterior Door Staining / Painting Questions:

What type of stain should I use on an unfinished, woodgrain Feather River door?
  Answer: Any high quality water-based, oil based or gel stain works well on our doors. Recommendations: Water-based stains: Minwax, Behr Oil Based: Minwax, Zar Gel Stains: Minwax, Olympic, Zar.

: It is extremely important to use an exterior polyurethane top-coat with a UV/marine finish after staining our fiberglass door.

What type of paint should I use on an unfinished, woodgrain Feather River door?
  Any high quality exterior acrylic latex or oil-based paint works well on our doors.

Does the smooth fiberglass door need to be painted?
  Answer: Yes, smooth fiberglass doors need to be painted within 6 Months of purchase. You can paint the door with any high quality exterior acrylic latex or oil-based paint. It is highly recommended that you finish your door jamb within 2 weeks of installation.

What is the warranty on the finish of the pre-finished product?
  Answer: We offer a two-year warranty on the finish of our pre-finished doors.

What type of weatherstrip is used on Feather River doors?
  Answer: All Feather River doors come with a Q-Lon Foam compression-type weatherstrip. The weatherstrip is white on our smooth-finish doors, tan on our woodgrain and pre-finished doors. (Our weatherstrip is set into a kerf in the jamb, never tacked in place.) All weatherstrip can be easily replaced or removed for painting and staining purposes.

What size hole should be drilled for the astragal plate in the threshold?
  Answer: 11/32”

What size Phillips head screwdriver should be used to adjust the threshold's adjustable rail?
  Answer:# 3 Phillips

What comes in the Installation Packet?
  Answer: All Prehung Doors come with an Installation Packet attached to the Door Jamb, This packet includes:
  • Install Instructions
  • Feather River Warranty
  • 4- #9- 2-1/4” security screws, which match the hinges, sill & caming
  • Two sill pads
    1. White pads for smooth-finished doors
    2. Tan pads for woodgrain and pre-finished doors

What type of caulking is used on the doorlites and how can excess caulk be removed?
  Answer:
  • On the exterior frame (between the glass-frame and the door slab) we use a foam compression-caulk.
  • On the interior frame (between the glass-frame and the glass of the doorlite) we use a glazing compound.

note: Any excess compression caulk can just be rubbed away with your finger. Any excess glazing compound can be removed with a razor-style scraper. Residue can be removed by using Windex or mineral spirits (however, use caution to prevent the cleaning agent from damaging the frame or door surface.)

Can my door be re-stained?
  Answer: We do not recommend re-staining a pre-finished Feather River Door.

How can I protect my door from the elements?
  Answer: Our door is supplied with a UV inhibiting polyurethane top coat that protects the door during the two-year warranty period on the finish. We recommend reapplying a top coat of polyurethane before the warranty period expires and periodically thereafter to maintain the protection.



Interior Door Questions

Where can Feather River Interior Doors be purchased?
  Answer: Feather River Interior Wood Doors are sold exclusively at The Home Depot.

What wood species are available?
  Answer: Feather River Interior Wood Doors come in 3 Standard Wood Species:
StainTru™ Red Oak, StainTru™ Pine, or Prime Advantage™.

Are Custom Species available?
  Answer: Yes, the following hardwood species are available as a special order: Cherry, Knotty Alder, Mahogany, or Maple.

Are interior doors available finished?
  Answer: No, the doors are raw wood veneer, except for Prime Advantage™, which comes primed.

Do the doors need to be finished?
  Answer: Yes, we recommend that every door be finished on all six sides. For further information see Finishing Instructions in the Resources section of this website.

Can slab-only doors be ordered bored or hinge prepped?
  Answer: No, slab preps are not available.

Can the doors be ordered pre-hung?
  Answer: Yes, in either a flat jamb (standard) or a split jamb in various jamb widths.

What sizes are available?
  Answer: Nominal widths are 2'0", 2'4", 2'6", 2'8", 3'0". Nominal heights are 6'8", 8'0". Not all doors are available in all sizes, see catalog for actual availability.

What is the overall pre-hung unit size?
  Answer: Add aprox. 1-1/2" to the nominal width, and 1-5/8" to the nominal height. (example: 2'0" x 6'8" nominal = 25-1/2" x 81-5/8" pre-hung unit size)

Are custom sizes available?
  Answer: No, only the sizes shown in the catalog are available.

What is the measurement from the bottom of the slab to the bottom of the jamb leg on a pre-hung unit?
  Answer: ¾" clearance is allowed for finished flooring. (carpet, tile, wood, etc.)

Can the doors or pre-hung units be ordered "cut-down" from The Home Depot?
  Answer: No, they are not available "cut-down".

Can the doors be trimmed?
  Answer: Yes, using the following guidelines:
The width can be trimmed a maximum of ½" (1/4" on each side).
The height can be trimmed a maximum of 1" (1/2" from the top and a ½" from the bottom).

What hardware comes on a pre-hung door?
  Answer: Brass hinges are standard on all decorative brass-camed units, the Grooved & Etched Collection, and the Designer Collection. Zinc hinges are standard on all decorative zinc-camed units. Patina hinges are standard on all decorative patina-camed units.

Are other hardware finishes available?
  Answer: Yes, antique brass, oil rubbed brass, satin nickel, or polished chrome can be special ordered.

Are interior double doors available?
  Answer: Yes, with either ball catch hardware (standard) or t-astragal and flush bolts.

What is the center gap on a double door with ball catch?
  Answer: An 1/8" is the maximum gap on the inside.

Does Feather River sell "glass only"?
  Answer: No, the decorative glass is only sold in our doors.

What side of the door is the glass installed on?
  Answer: As a rule, the decorative portion (bevels, grooves, etching, etc.) faces the fixed-stop side of the door.

Which glass designs offer the most obscurity?
  Answer: Obscurity levels vary based on the glass design. Look for glass designs that mention obscure glass in their glass description.

Can the doors be used in bi-pass or pocket-door applications?
  Answer: Yes, for further information see applications and uses in the resources section of this website.

What is the warranty?
  Answer: Feather River offers a one-year limited warranty on wood interior doors.

How to determine handing of an interior door -
  Answer: From the outside or common hall area looking to the inside or the sectioned off room, the side that the hinges are on will determine left or right hand hinged. If the door swings away from you, or into the room, it is an inswing. If the door swings toward you it is an outswing.
